About this deal

Positive attitudes to reading and choosing to read have academic, social and emotional benefits for children.

You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. I think a lot of the Little Wandle books are just the old Big Cat books slotted into the new system. Weekly content grids, lesson templates and ‘How to’ videos all help to ensure that all adults maintain consistency in their teaching and this is monitored half termly by the Reading Leader and SLT so that any misconceptions or inconsistencies can be rectified as soon as possible. To meet the demands of the new programme we have invested heavily as a school in the matching Harper Collins reading books for both the main Little Wandle programme and the Rapid Catch Up programme for ages 7+.We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. Where this is the case, we will support these children by using the Little Wandle Rapid Catch Up Scheme. Each decodable book has been carefully crafted to help children to build on their secure phonic knowledge, moving confidently from decoding words to reading fluently and for pleasure. They will practice decoding the words in the book and will discuss the meaning of any new words before reading.

However, we know that spelling is harder than reading and so we would expect schools to continue teaching spelling by applying the alphabetic code and rules about suffixes in Year 2 as detailed in the National Curriculum. It is essential not to use other strategies to work out words (including guessing words, deducing meaning from pictures, grammar, context clues or whole word recognition). All children in Reception and Year 1 participate in a daily phonics lessons, usually in the morning.

He's pretty fluent now in the phase 5 so just waiting to see whether these 7+ books are offered next or something else more challenging. This means all children are given books that match their phonic ability and enable them to be successful at reading, in turn developing their love of reading for pleasure. The school I teach at swapped to little wandle at the start of the year and we've had to reorganise, give away and purchase new books. As far as I can see, the 7+ books look to just be the same phases but aimed at older kids (ie more age appropriate content for kids with a lower reading age than their age). Children on track should be secure with phase 4 (be able to read single letter sounds and phase 3 digraphs and trigraphs, words with constant blends ie frog, splash or brain as well as words with 3-4 syllables).Read more about the condition New: A new, unread, unused book in perfect condition with no missing or damaged pages. Our Little Wandle SEND Programme has been developed to be used with the graduated approach to teach children to learn to read in small steps that provide the right amount of challenge. How to’ videos, training and prompt cards help you ensure your team is confident delivering these activities. Supporting the DfE validated SSP programme - Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised these fully decodable readers are an exciting mix of stories and non-fiction to foster a love of reading in all children. I’m “just” a parent, but books like Songbirds Phonics definitely seem to follow a phonetic difficulty progression through the bands.
