About this deal

Aided by his on-again, off-again girlfriend, law professor Marine Bonnet, Berlaque must turn Provence upside down, uncovering a world far more complicated than university politics, to find the killer before it's too late. Lots of background that really does not help solve the case at all, but makes for nice reading and makes the people more human. She obviously loves France--evidenced by the descriptions of the area and the people, but doesn't quite pull off an authentic French feel. Het begint allemaal heel “cosy” en Longworth neemt uitgebreid de tijd om de personages voor te stellen en de omgeving te omschrijven.

Will Judge Antoine Verlaque, his on again/off again lady friend law professor Marine Bonnet and Commissioner Bruno Paulik of the Aix police unravel these mysteries? Almost more than anything else, the book is a delight to read for its detailed descriptions of foods and wines, while art—I’d not known before of Gallés glass and ex-votos--, history—during the plague, the town fathers of Aix closed the city gates resulting in the plague passing without the loss of a single life in Aix--, literature—“What will survive of us is love. With deftly shifting points of view, Longworth creates a beguiling read that will appeal to Louise Penny and Donna Leon fans.Najbardziej bolą błędy - głównie w tłumaczeniu, ale i w tekście źródłowym, bo czymże jest opis, że jedziemy pogadać z panem X, a potem radośnie rozmawiamy z panem Y (pan X już nie pojawia się w powieści), albo nagłe przeniesienie bohaterów w czasoprzestrzeni (w jednym akapicie piją kawę w domu, w kolejnym mówią sobie do widzenia na skrzyżowaniu - WFT.

The two could not be any more different, but both turned out to be entirely delightful vacation reads, this one especially so. The director was about to announce the recipient of a fellowship and also his successor as director which includes quite a perk: the beautiful apartment in the 17th century mansion. First Sentence: The friendship between Yann Falquerho and Thierry Marchive had surprised everyone at the university. At least the TV adaptation had the sense to move the action from a theology department to medieval history and so saved itself from some of the pitfalls of this dreadfully badly written and incompletely edited tome.Due to a review by another reader here on goodreads, I took a chance on checking out several books by Longworth from this series.
