About this deal

My 6-star book list is reserved for those few books that, from start to finish, go above and beyond.

With "Slammed", while I didn't care for the story, I still appreciated what it offered and I understood why people liked the story - I just expected more from it. That special feeling you get when you’ve just experienced a story so beautiful, characters so enchanting and writing so magical that you feel it deep down in your bones and you know, without a doubt, it’s going to stay with you forever. I admire Colleen Hoover for creating such adorable and lovable characters who will always have a special place in my heart and on my bookshelf. He had hoped that he would finally gain closure and be able to rid himself of his guilt the moment they were reconnected. I wish there were more Julia and Eddie scenes and less of Will wanting to be a coffee cup or Layken's knees and teeth (those last two were weird). This story is told in a back and forth composition which is so perfectly executed, so precisely timed that the reader is taken on a journey through Will’s eyes that will leave you spellbound in its beauty and telling. Layken and Will have managed to overcome the obstacles that threatened to destroy their love, proving that they are destined for one another. They were both left to take care of younger siblings, and become parents themselves long before they should have.

What I loved about this book are the ones that were already in Slammed (Layken's 'Schooled' poem still left me a bawling mess), the break up scene with Vaughn, the fact that I got to near-buddy read this with nearly everyone in my feed and every damn scene Julia was in right to that last, gutting star. That tell a story that is so beautiful, real, original, and powerful that it leaves a mark on my heart that I know will be there for ever. First off, we’re not going to refer to This Girl as “Slammed from Will’s POV” because for us that is too simple a term for how wonderful and beautiful this book was. I normally hate the same book/different point of view thing this genre tends to put out, but CoHo mixed it up and included a bunch of new in with the old.Throw listening to I And Love And You by the Avett Brothers into the mix and we’ll be right back to April 2013 in the blink of an eye. It was so special you wanted to tuck it away in your heart and bring it out at a time when you needed to put that smile back on your face.

There were secrets revealed, and many feelings divulged that shed new light on their relationship and their love for each other. Which was why when I heard that her next book was going to be Will's POV from Slammed I was quite a bit wary.It was riveting, captivating, and I was so wrapped up in the story that I didn’t even notice that I literally read until the sun came up. It constantly switches from the present to the past, allowing us a complete view of Will and Lake's story.

If I took every romantic poem, every book, every song, and every movie I've ever read, heard or seen and extracted the breathtaking moments, somehow bottling them up, they would pale in comparison to this moment. It wasn't always an easy story to read, we don't only get to re-live the beautiful, joyous moments, but also the sad, heartbreaking ones.I know Hoover can do a better work than this and this feels like it was just released to ride on the coattails of popularity this series has spawned. The epilogue is something book lovers dream about and being that we are both readers first and reviewer/bloggers second, we can tell you that this book completely captivated us and it’s the thing book memories are made of. Those individuals with this expressed preference may feel strong feelings of arousal, attraction, love, and commitment to certain items or structures of their fixation. I hate saying it, or saying something about anyone else's writing which various people can find value even with its qualms, but I think someone has to.
